ravello rose!

Published June 12th, 2013

Ernest William Beckett, Lord Grimthorpe discovered the abandon late roman estate at Ravello at the end of the 19th century, he named it Villa Cimbrone. He was on a grand tour recovering from a severe form of depression following the early death of his much loved wife. The location on an outcrop of rock looking over the Amalfi coast brought him immense happiness, so he bought the estate and rejuvenated it in a style of Italian meets English!

"lost to the world of which I desire no part, I sit alone and speak to my heart, satisfied with my little corner of the world, content to feel no more sadness for death".

A moving quotation which asks so many questions of us all!

Pebbles!

We are just pebbles on a beach

Each one living due to the passing of the tides

Helpless to resist the motion of the waves

Travelling from distant shore to distant shore

Each passing pebble leaves its mark as we leave ours

The shape of every pebble holds the storey of its great journey

From its exultant creation to its final adventure

We are just pebbles on a beach

Each one of us very different from the next

But yet, we are just pebbles

1. How do you reduce chickens?

2. What do you reduce them from? and

3. What do you reduce them to?

Surely, the lowly supermarket chicken’s life is already reduced to what can only be described as poultry! 39 days of life at best sat in piss and shit burning into their feet, barely able to move amongst the other sad birds, force-fed grain to gain weight for early slaughter to satisfy the happy shoppers desire for cheap birds! Fed drugs to gain fluids for additional weight and to stave off early illness – need healthy fat birds to satisfy the masters and maximise profits! Perhaps the lucky ones die early and end up as food for zoo’s and pet shops!

So, I ask again, how do you reduce chickens?
