Blog #22 - "You should write a book..."

Published July 26th, 2011

After I have started my blog here on 500px, there were people telling me that I should write a book. I thought that this might be a bit too much. I kept writing blog posts. But one day I thought, maybe I should give it a try. There are some essential advantages of an eBook in a PDF format. You can print it in a nice layout, you can read it on your computer offline and you can also copy it to a tablet PC like the iPad. So, that was about 35 day ago. First I thought it would be a though time schedule. But now I can say that it will write from itself when you are passionate enough.

I will not have to tell you too much about it. The book is ready and I have published it. The best thing about it is that it is completely free of charge. It's a PDF document containing about 50% of my blogs here together with unpublished content and a lot of photos.

Please download your version here: http://book.85mm.ch

P.S. I don't ask for money, but it would be great if you could share the link to the book around the world...

Content-wise I like it better than the first one. I still think you should merge both, re-work some of the language and move towards something polished that you can maintain long term and add to if needed.

Most of the criticism I saw towards your book (and work in general) is about photographic rights. Maybe that chapter should be more precise and quote some of the actual law that affects photographers in different countries. There are huge differences in even most European countries.

All in all a welcome idea and piece of work. Thank you Thomas.

(one minor negative comment - quoting yourself kind of made me cringe , even done tongue in cheek)

I like everything about this from its price to its democratic view on equipment to its focus on composition to its photographic content. Congratulations on a great achievement :)

loved the book, just super... would love to know what software you used to create the book, I have been looking at Blurb ( http://www.blurb.com/ ) for quite a while but just haven't started working on anything yet. I have some material from a few trips to Uganda I would like to get moving with, just didn't know where to start.

Again, great stuff... Scott
