Alfie is a British professional photographer and photography teacher living in Tokyo, Japan, with his wife Hiromi and their three children; Joe, Ami and Charlie. Alfie started taking pictures aged seven and had his first photos published in 1991, at the age of 22 an after finishing three years of photography studies in the UK. From 1991 until 2001 he worked in the music business, as Press Director for Nimbus Records and then as General Manager for Black Box Music in London. During that time his music photography was published in magazines and newspapers across the world. He also photographed Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD Festivals for some years and in 2002 was chief photographer and photo editor for the official website of Glastonbury Festival. In 2002, Alfie started his own graphic and web-design business in the UK. Since moving to Japan he does less design, concentrating most of his time on working as a freelance photographer and teaching photography. He works in Japan for a range of domestic and overseas commercial, private and editorial clients. Recent clients have included: Ferrari Magazine, Lexus, BBC, QMagazine, Wall Street Journal. His photography teaching business has more than 300 students on its mailing list. As well as frequent one-to-one lessons with students all over Tokyo, he organizes weekly workshops and photowalks.
