My visual aesthetic was formed in four places: my native Northern California, where the immediacy and grandeur of the land called me to visit the wild places; the United Kingdom, where I learned that there is also beauty to be found in old stones hewn by the winds or built by ancestors stretching pack to time immemorial; Boston, where I became fascinated by the impact of geometry on the natural and built environments; and, finally, Rhode Island, where I found a gentler, softer, more compact landscape marked by ocean and rivers and bay. Sadly, this portfolio is limited to the final two places when the medium of digital photography allowed me to create images in a way never possible before, but these images would not be what they are without the the influences of the former two where I spent the vast majority of my life and where my heart will forever reside.
