Carrie Stiles is a peace scholar and multimedia producer from Portland Oregon. Carrie has wielded her camera in over thirty countries on five continents to capture the abundant human spirit. She is learning to appreciate, more and more, the subtleties involved in a tremendous photograph. Her obsession with sharing light led her to 500px... ............................................................................................. “Light glorifies everything. It transforms and ennobles the most commonplace and ordinary subjects. The object is nothing; light is everything.”— leonard missone The photograph is the medium I use to illustrate and examine my independent adventures in over thirty countries. I use the camera to document and render my audacious journey’s tangible. Although I bask in Missone’s obsession with light, I disagree that the object is nothing. With my portraits I ask the viewer to appreciate beauty in diversity, empathize with others and be transformed by the unknown. Through portraiture I consider the marginalization of indigenous cultures. I built my portfolio over three cumulative years while I was exploring Western and Eastern Europe, the Baltic States, Scandinavia, North Africa, West and South Africa, India and Costa Rica. Through photography I seek to convey a message of cooperation, nonviolence and compassion. I present here some of the moments I feel clearly express meanings, truths and beauty I have stumbled upon en route. Oh, in case you were wondering, I shoot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1. You’ve got to push yourself harder. You’ve got to start looking for pictures nobody else could take.
