The Best Camera Bag Ever.....

Published July 18th, 2011

....has to be the Bigfoot of the photography world. Everyone believes it's out there and people are looking for it but no one has actually found it. There are rumored sightings and questionable evidence suggesting it's discovery but nothing solid.

I was one of the hunters for a couple of years. Tamrac, Crumpler, Domke, Kata, Lowepro and on and on. It took a while but I realized Bigfoot doesn't exist, at least in the world of camera bags. The bag I need (want is maybe more appropriate) today may not be the bag I need tomorrow. If I'm going out of town for a month and want all my gear with me, the Kata 3in1 30 is great. If I'm going to be out doing some street photography and riding the "El" all day in Chicago, I don't want to lug around a small suitcase on my back. I also don't want something that screams CAMERA BAG! on the "El".

I've found a state of enlightenment. I now realize that the best camera bag ever is actually a combination of 3 to 4 bags that I can pack for what that day calls for. Different sizes and different styles. No matter where I'm going or what I'm doing, I can have the best camera bag for that day. The next day may be a different bag but I'll still have the best camera bag. Now I just have to decide on what 3 to 4 bags make the best combination. I think I have a problem.

Oh, by the way. He's out there somewhere. I just know it.

My street photography bag is a USA Hockey Messager-Style bag with a Tenba Photo Insert. Can carry prostyle body with lens and has room for two more lenses.

Potential Bigfoot sighting...

It's geared to the backpacker so not suitable for all situations. But even among Bigfoot there's variations...Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti - even the Honey Island Swamp Monster.

The company also has a camera bag that is specifically designed not to scream camera bag.
