We believe in inspiration and creative visions. We like to solve problems with simple solutions and tweak common thinking with surreal, uncommon and comical twists. We do this for a living when we have to, but prefer to do it for the love of it.

Ruts and Guts

Published August 26th, 2011

It's actually a more profound title that seems. "Ruts and Guts" is in reference to the ruts we find ourselves in as creative people and the gut checks we endure to keep moving forward even when your not clear on the path. I've seen some articles recently saying that "if you are not doing what you love, quit". Hell, maybe they just don't have kids. For me I have to live multiples lives and one of those is a lot more fun than the other. None the less I keep this separation between what I love to do and what I have to do, to do what I love to do. Ruts and Guts!

I love outtakes

Published August 18th, 2011

I go to great lengths sometimes to set up shots and make sure everything is just the way it should be. But then you get on of these outtakes that is every bit as interesting and sometimes I even like them more.

The girl helping the model is actually the person who talked me into this shoot and Alix (the model) eventually became one of my all time favorite models to work with. Strange how this stuff works.

First things first. If you do not know who David Lachapelle is... take the time to find out. http://www.lachapellestudio.com/

David Lachapelle - The thrill is gone

Don't get me wrong here. I still do and will always love the work of David Lachapell. That said,I think he had his BB King moment a few years ago. That is to say, David Lachapelle stopped loving the work he did and started shooting for the reputation, the clients and just simply because he is David Lachapell. My understanding is that he has been holed up at his Hawaii home for a while now doing some sort of farming and that the machine behind him has been doing the shows, events and galleries. So what the hell happened?

I ask/say that tongue and cheek. I know what happened. He lost the love. He wasn't breaking any new ground our summiting any new areas of photography. He has become a legend and the means the game is over. Unless of course you're shooting purely for yourself.

How do you get the "thrill" back?

Who knows. ...
