Over the last week I have been weighing up the Big Switch from Flickr to 500px...
It hasnt been a easy choice as I was impressed that much with the old 500px look and feel but then as they updated the overall look and also with the added lightroom App Ive begun to swing more to 500px.
But since then Flickr has also been working on a update...
Ive been a Flickr user since they first started and loved the storage and access to my work as standalone images to collections and access to printing options this alone beats 500px but im sure they will compete on that level very soon (500px only offers canvas prints?)
But the next few months will be interesting for Flickr if they can keep their users as alot have moved to other online storage/sharing site with FaceBook the king at the moment but I like the way 500px is starting to cater for the more pro and inbetween photographers and not just the candid snap happy filter crew (Instagram).
Id love 500px to incorporate the tech info of the images more to showcase the lengths we go to to get that shot even if the visual element of the camera setting per shot looks more like the display on a D-slr I think would be a handy feature even if optional :)
Also a time, date and map visual element to show sun direction for locations and time of day (imagine a filter to showcase the best sunset, midday shots or time of day shots would be a cool feature and not to forget the night long exposure photographers maybe star maps?)
That's it for my first rant on 500px will be back when Ive picked the site to keep or migrate too :)
