Glasswing

Published February 7th, 2012

Armed with a new piece of kit this first practice session took place last week in a tropical butterfly house where there is no shortage of subjects to photograph. I should also mention the other reason ..... its a warm haven within which to practice during this freezing weather. The acquisition of a new macro lens is bringing forward many challenges as I get to grips with its fully manual status and its sensitivity. The camera must be stabilised so a tripod is required, shutter control must be by timer or remote as its depression is ample to cause blurring and of course the subject is never static ........ The "manual only" nature of this lens dictates that the user must gain understanding of settings/control in order to obtain an image. There have been steep learning curves .......

Here is an image from this first session - a beautifully delicate glasswing butterfly focused on feeding.
