Long-jawed orb weaver

Published February 8th, 2012

Yesterday I decided to venture in to my back garden for the second practice session with macro lens. It was extremely cold and finding insects in the open was difficult. Despite equipment being steadied the prevailing strong breeze caused too much movement to gain many decent shots ...... rendering them to a blur. All movements caused the subject matter to move in and out of the focus frame. Any sheltered areas of the garden were too dark for macro work as I dont have a lens ring light at present.

Despite difficult conditions I managed to photograph an interesting spider hidden under a dried rose head and was pleased with the overall composition. Tetragnatha montana - (long-jawed orb weaver) elegantly and eeriely poised with legs outstretched in front blended in with her surroundings.
