John Haldane founded Grand Memories in the early 1990s but he has been taking photos seriously for over 35 years. In 2006, he retired from 25 years in government and began devoting full time to his life-long love of photography. With decades of experience photographing the wonders of nature across America, John has gained the perspective necessary for good photographs.
In the early 1990s, John joined the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and began using the Adobe Photoshop tools extensively. This, along with Adobe Lightroom, a WACOM Pen tablet, and other software enable him to develop, adjust, treat, paint, and otherwise manipulate photographs into works of art.
John is a member of the Carolina Nature Photographers Association (CNPA), F/32, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), and Digital Photo Pros. He is a past member of the East Valley (AZ) Art Guild and the Mesa (AZ) Art League. He supports the Western North Carolina Nature Center, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the North Carolina Arboretum, and other organizations through his time, money, and photography.
His photographs have been displayed in art galleries, at art fairs, and on internet sites, published in magazines and as magazine covers, in promotional calendars, have been shown on television, and have won numerous awards. John and his wife, Laura, live in Asheville, North Carolina.
