Photographer Dean J. Tatooles specializes in fine art panoramic landscape photography, wildlife photography, and indigenous portraiture from remote locations around the world. Dean's innate talent for photography is evident in each of his striking images. Attributing his inspiration to photographers Peter Lik and Art Wolfe, Dean's passion and dedication to his craft are unsurpassed. When asked about Lik and Wolfe, Dean simply replied, "these two artists have taught me a whole new way to look through my eyes."
Dean's travels have taken him across all seven continents, but he became fascinated with the topography, culture and wildlife of certain locations in the Southern Hemisphere. In that spirit, Dean created Southern Cross Galleries after the constellation that bears its name and is only visible from below the Equator. Dean's hope is that his work touches that sense of adventure in everyone and that viewers of his photographs will be transported to another time and place, even if it's for just a moment.
Dean works with professional Nikon digital SLR equipment to capture his spectacular wildlife images and indigenous portraiture as well as a Linhof Technorama 617 S III medium format panoramic camera to produce his majestic landscapes. In most cases, what you see in his final product is what Dean saw through his lens. There is very little digital modification performed to his photographs during processing. Dean's fine art photographic prints are of the highest quality. It is important to remember that images viewed on the Internet pale in comparison to the actual print in person. Subtle details and nuances of color are impossible to convey in a low-resolution web image. The sight of the large, crisply printed image in person will simply take your breath away.
All of Dean's digital images are shot in RAW format at an extremely high resolution. Those images not captured in the digital format are created using Fuji© professional negative or transparency film. After choosing only his best negatives or transparencies for printmaking, Dean has each one professionally drum-scanned by Danny Burk Photography, LLC to obtain the ultimate level of detail and sharpness. Through that process, each transparency is individually mounted using a special gel, and scanned at between 2000 dpi and 4000 dpi to extract the fullest detail, highlight, and shadow. Dean then personally creates each individual print in his own lab affording him complete creative control. All of Dean's prints are of the finest archival materials and created using 100% Epson© cotton rag fine art paper suitable for any decor.
