Wim was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and wasted no time in spending as much time as possible in the bush. His keen interest in wildlife led him straight from high school to complete his National Diploma in Nature Conservation whilst working as nature conservator, researcher and guide on Rietvlei Nature Reserve.
After two more years of studying Wim completed his B-Tech degree in Nature Conservation and then ventured further afield to one of the best lodges in Africa, Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve. He worked there as a field guide for 4 years completing all three levels of his FGASA qualifications from where he then became head ranger at Sabi Sabi’s Earth Lodge. Wim continued his career at the newly established Thanda Private Game Reserve in Kwa-Zulu Natal as Safari Manager and a year later, together with his wife, became relief camp managers for Sanctuary Retreats in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Chief’s Island being one of his favourite wildlife destinations.
Wim is now based in Pretoria with his wife, working on their first wildlife documentary.
Wim specialises in leading photographic safaris, birding safaris as well as large predators of Africa safaris.
