Life is a series of short moments, strung together, that make the whole of a life’s journey an epic tale.
I truly believe this. I also believe the art of photography becomes much more substantial when you consider how fleeting those moments can be. It allows us the ability to capture what will never be here again, a smile that will never be smiled again, a sun that will never set the same again, rain that will never fall the same again, ...pain, that will never be as painful again. To me, that is the art in photography. The ability to share the journey and preserve its memories along the way.
There is a natural talent involved in catching a moment...but it also takes knowledge of human movement, the natural world, lighting, time, and most importantly...patience. Basically, you must plan to be lucky. Anybody can grab an expensive camera, press the shutter button, and take a picture. BUT someone who knows photography can take a timeless picture with a simple point and shoot or disposable camera. The equipment does not make the photographer... It is most definitely the other way around.
I have not been at this for very long, and I hope that I will always consider myself an amateur. As someone who will always find something new in this fantastic world to learn about and align myself with.... even if it is just for a moment.
