Allen Chan is a self taught photographer who is greatly influenced by today's modern photographers such as Joe McNally, Jeremy Cowart, Zack Arias as well as the late photographer Julia Margaret Cameron who inspired him to sometimes incorporate her classic, antique look.
He started shooting with a DSLR in 2008 with a Nikon D80, but, it only took him a year after that to step up to the full frame Nikon D700 which he has been shooting his portraits with. There's hardly ever a day where he doesn't have his camera with him. He normally uses one flash for his portraits to get the darker and dramatic style which he is most comfortable at shooting.
He is based in New York City and shoots around lower Manhattan and sets up his studio in Chinatown on Bowery street.
