A Truck

Published July 6th, 2013

One of my friends bought a truck a while back--a beautiful, black, 1992 Ford F150--and she drove that truck to school every single day her senior year (and parked it in the same spot each of those days). She's going away to college now and has no use for the truck anymore so she decided to sell it. But because of the sentimental value of the truck, she asked me to take a few photos of her and it before she parted with it. Here's what happened:

Summer Shoot

Published September 29th, 2012

Thought I'd try to get as many shoots in as possible before this nice weather went away. Granted there is a lot of repetition in this set, but I thought this one still went particularly well. Equipment: 7D, 580ex (off camera, handheld), 24-70mm 2.8L, 10-22 EFS, 200mm 2.8L.

Giants

Published August 12th, 2012

Great game. Got off to a good start, then the Rockies caught up and we trailed for a bit, until Pence blasted a 3-run homer to put us ahead 9-6. Awesome experience so I snapped a few pics while I was there.

Skating

Published August 6th, 2012

The other day I asked my friend to skate around while I take photos for my portfolio, and of course for a new profile picture for him. The shoot turned out pretty well, and the speedlite really helped to freeze the motion. Mostly used the 10-22mm but took a few with the 200mm 2.8, the 50mm 1.4, and my newest lens, the 24-70mm 2.8

Wyoming

Published July 3rd, 2012

Spent the last four days in the wonderful state of Wyoming. Contrary to popular belief, there is more in this land than cowboys and their trusty steeds. Everywhere I looked there was something beautiful--from mountains in the Grand Tetons, to Grizzlies in Yellowstone. I was lucky enough to get up close to a few moose, a couple beavers, and I even saw a bald eagle (although I didn't have my camera with me at the time). It was a great learning experience for me as I bought a couple of filters (.6 Soft Edge Grad ND and .3 Reverse Grad ND) right before the trip that I got to utilize in most of my landscapes. Drop a comment and let me know what you think of the shots! Hope you enjoy them.

Headphones

Published January 9th, 2012

Had these cool new headphones laying around and decided to try to do a commercial-style shoot with them using a one-flash setup. Came away with some nice results and I'm happy I was able to get the results with such a simple setup.

Coffee

Published November 10th, 2011

A couple weeks ago I felt compelled to try to get a shot similar to Rick Nunn's of a coffee cup full of beans (you can view his shot here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ricknunn/6195947497/in/photostream). It was a simple one light setup, and I tried to just get in as many different shots as I could. I realize now that I completely blew out the cup, but the beans turned out pretty well exposed. I'm pretty happy with the end result, and I learned a very valuable lesson: when you're lighting in an enclosed space, turn a fan on, the lights heat the place up pretty quickly!

Christmas Card Shoot

Published November 9th, 2011

About a week ago my friend asked me if I would take some photos of her and her brother to use for their family Christmas card. It was a relatively small shoot - I just used my 580exii, a stand, and an umbrella - because I had to move around in their backyard a lot. I think it turned out pretty well and I got at least one shot that's definitely going in my portfolio (the one with the Christmas tree lights) so I think it was worth it! Hopefully I can get in a few more Christmas shoots before the season ends.

Lakeside

Published September 18th, 2011

This weekend I asked one of my friends to get up SUPER early and model for me. I thought I would be able to get some good shots at a nearby lake. I brought along my 7D with battery grip, and I used my 10-22, my 50 1.4, and my 200 2.8 for all the shots. Lighting was done mostly with a 580exii through a diffuser umbrella (which I thought worked great), as well as my reflector. As soon as we got out on the dock, as I was putting my 580 on the stand with the umbrella, the knob which keeps the legs down popped off, and rolled into the water. What a way to start a shoot! Lost knob aside, It was a great shoot and I learned a lot. Nice day too!

Drummer

Published August 27th, 2011

Today I had the chance to shoot an old friend of mine who's a drummer. I was able to get a lot of the shots I came in to the shoot trying to get: a stroboscopic shot, a shot framing him with his drumset, and a couple portraits. Overall I thought it was a successful shoot, and I learned a lot since it was my first shoot with my new 580ex ii flash. For 90% of the shots I shot through a diffuser umbrella, but because for whatever reason the wireless transmitter I bought (about $30) isn't able to make the flash shoot multiple times for the stroboscopic effect; so I shot with the flash right on the camera bouncing off the ceiling for those.
