Thoughts on Android

This is a repost from a Google+ discussion. Someone was asking for advice in deciding on a new phone, and I decided to chime in with my thoughts, having switched from an old iPhone to a shiny new Nexus S just half a year ago.

...I do agree about the iPhone culture, it can get annoying. Then again, I've personally transcended beyond technological vanity, so Steve Jobs' "reality distortion field" has no power over me ;)
As for the platform comparison, first hand, here are some excerpts from my notes on the subject (keep in mind I'm running the vanilla Android on Nexus S, with no 3rd-party UI "enhancements" (cough)).
Overall: It takes more clicks, taps, and tinkering, to get Android running smoothly and to your liking. On the other hand, on iOS you don't really get that many options for customizability, so that point is moot. Once you do get a few apps installed on Android, you will notice the phone slowing down, because for some unfathomable reason even the apps you didn't open ...
