Celi Birke is a 21 year old design & photography student in her junior year at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She has been interested in design for much longer than she knew what it was or how it came to be. Her interest in photography came later, and has been pursued actively for three years as Celi shoots for fashion and portraiture in Fayetteville.
In summer 2011 she became involved in the TEXT Program, an oral history project that documents the stories of Tibetans and Tibetan Buddhist monks who have escaped oppressive Chinese rule by traveling through the Himalayan Mountains to India. In her three weeks there, she documented the lives of refugees in New Delhi, Goa, and Dharamsala. What she captured was unforgettable resilience, compassion, and self-reliance in an aggressively non-violent culture, a force to be reckoned with. Celi is planning a Spring 2012 show of her photos at a gallery in Fayetteville.
When she isn't shooting internationally, Celi shoots mostly fashion, lifestyle and engagement portraits. Interested folks may get in touch with her for information.
