Well, I've done it! I have finally joined 500px, a decision that's been met with a 60/40 split of excitement and shame. Don't get me wrong; I am ecstatic to now be a member of a wonderful community of truly incredible artists and I am still perpetually floored by the photographs I see every time I visit the site. But the sheer talent on 500px can be intimidating and this is the very reason for the 40 of the aforementioned 60/40 emotional split. My joining 500px has rekindled memories of my days growing up, trying continually to tag along with and impose on my older sisters and their friends whom I looked up to and from whom I so desperately sought approval. At the time, I persisted despite the realization that I didn't quite fit in. And to some small extent, I suspect the same holds true for 500px and I today.
But who knows? Perhaps I'll feel differently as I mature as a photographer. For now what I do know is that 500px is the best online community to help me do so. The quality of work on this site is truly inspiring and I can't wait to share some of my own photos with everyone here.
Now to conclude my first post on my 500px blog, I think it is fitting that I post a photo of my first post (of the lamp variety), taken almost four years ago shortly after buying my first DSLR, a Nikon D50.
