Dominick Hewitt, the inventor of The CardCam was born and grew up in Dublin, Ireland. From an early age, he demonstrated an aptitude for inventiveness and creativity and throughout his school years developed his skills in various crafts, including woodwork, art, design and photography.
His interest in film led him to a career as a stunt professional, doubling for many well-known actors such as Pierce Brosnan, Gabriel Byrne and Stephen Rea and also working on many major productions such as Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan and The Guard as well as numerous TV productions, both in Ireland and internationally.
During breaks in filming, Dominick continued to hone his artistic, creative and inventive skills as well as his passion for photography. The inspiration for The CardCam was sparked by a birthday card his daughter recieved on her 13th birthday. It appeared as if it would take a photograph, but inside it contained lighting candles that could be extinguished by the recipient blowing on the card.
Within days, Dominick along with a friend and Special Effects technician named Marty Kelly has designed and assembled a card with a built in photographic mechanism and produced a working prototype which they called "The CardCam".
Some private investment enabled the duo to submit a patent application, which was accepted in September 2011. An exciting and proud achievment for the pair.
