In the second half of the 19th century, an author and diplomat, native of Dubrovnik- Matija Ban bought an estate on the location of the present Banovo Brdo in Belgrade. He was a pan-Slavist and is commonly regarded as being the first to use the term "Yugoslav". After his family name, his estate became known as Banovac, which later gave name to the whole neighborhood that developed on the hill around it.
Famous painter Stevan Todorovic married Ban's daughter Poleksija and she brought entire hill to a marriage.
Just a february night walk in Košutnjak, a park-forest in neighbourhood.
