Glimpses of Paris

Published June 6th, 2012

There are many stories, poems and songs about Paris. This is just a glimpse of my search to capture what I saw in a few days.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

The new terminal is light and airy and speaks of the modernisation of the city. A decade ago the airport was dirty and cigarette smoke hung about the place together with stuffy attitudes. Today the whole city is cleaner and more welcoming to tourists.

Champs Elysée at night

Tourists, party goers and the homeless cross paths around the Arc de Triomphe in this the City of Lights.

Memories of the night before

In the morning they are replaced by the cleaners. Some memories remain. Whether this one was a scene celebration we can never be sure.

Sad memories

Signs like this were dotted around Paris, commemorating the victims of war. The faded bunch of flowers drew my attention to this one near the Arc de Triomphe.

Paris Opera

The old opera house speaks of the grandeur of a bygone age.

Paris Opera

The size and ornate artwork is amazing.

The curious are able to wander around for a fee, but the auditorium remains off limits as a rehearsal is going on. They could not tell us when the rehearsals were scheduled, but there is more chance of seeing the auditorium first thing in the morning.
