Self taught photographer. I began picture taking after returning from Vietnam in 1970. I learned to appreciate the beauty of the United States that I had so often taken for granted prior. I began to look and see God's beauty and wanted to capture it on film so I could see it and preserve it for memories. Started with 35mm camera and eventually moved up to medium format. I shot mainly in transparency film because at that time publications primarily requested slides for submission. First publication was in 1987 and luckily made the cover of a magazine and was published both in U.S. and Europe. It was a portrait of an elderly male in a cowboy hat. Publications began paying for my hobby, more equipment and a color darkroom where I really learned the importance of lighting and proper exposures. Learned photography through reading and looking at photos of other photographers. I grew to love it. I feel very fortunate to be able to post on 500px, as I feel the majority of photographs here are superb and much better than mine. I hope to continue learning from all of you on 500px.
