Engineer by day. Film photographer by choice. I am Rem Lansangan. I've said this countless of times in many a social networks before, "I am a Filipino engineer by day and a film photographer by choice." "Lansangan" is a Filipino word that literally translates to "street," As a photographer, I try to personify the streets of Manila through my work. I may or may not succeed in this endeavor but, at the very least, I hope I can influence people into taking notice of both the simplicity and complexity of street life and everything in between. I particularly adore urban exploration photography. I am mesmerised by the mundane, rundown and rotting beauties of the metropolis, especially if they are devoid of human presence. I sense a certain flow in architectural degeneration, like musical notes gone astray or something to that effect. I shoot film 99.9% of the time. In all honesty, I feel I can only capture the essence of how fleeting moments are in the streets through the romantic one-and-done nature of analog photography. I've never done any professional nor commercial work and I don't think I ever will as my photography is very personal to me. I also adore collecting film cameras, particularly Yashicas and Contaxes, in large part because my first ever camera was a hand-me-down Yashica Electro 35 GSN. When I'm not at work nor out and about shooting, I can be found on the hardcourt, slugging it out in what is regarded by many as the Philippines' one true passion: basketball.
