I have spent 43 years in the professional photography industry. I run a professional photographic busines in Knysna South Africa, Most of my photographs posted on this site are taken on Olympus Pen.
Although I spend most time working in the commercial side my great passion is Street Photography. The best thing about street photography is that it is possible for the final viewer of a print to see more than the original photographer. One of the great things about a city is that more things are happening, even within a small neighborhood, at any moment than any human can comprehend.
Don’t take too much equipment and travel light. It’ll make you less obtrusive and you will be able to move around for the best shot quickly.I believe that getting a good street photograph is 70% balls and 30% skill. How do you do it? Well the next time you are out in public and you are looking at people, continue to stare at them until they either look away first or walk away. As long as you aren’t in a super-shady part of town, most people won’t give you hassels.
If asked, shoot and even if you don't want to, and even if you're shooting film or running out of storage space one "wasted" frame can make somebody happy, and bring lots of positive karma your way, letting you do your stuff in peace. So do your thing and get on with Penography!
