Artist and serious amateur photographer, as well as a mother of 2 almost grown children, I live east of Toronto, with my partner, a professional fine artist. Inspiration abounds right in the vicinity of where we reside.
I am thrilled by visual sights that involve texture, a unique perspective of often overlooked objects in my surround, mood, odd or non traditional lighting conditions, reflection, and refraction. In my portrait shots especially, I am a lover of available light as opposed to flash or studio lighting. I also find it difficult to embrace over saturated images and over applied HDR which is so prevalent these days, though I do sometimes see ones I enjoy. Possibly this is part of that "realist" vein that courses through me.
I have always strongly believed that an interesting or appealing photographic image, most importantly, needs to possess mood and atmosphere, capturing how a particular sight made me feel at the moment comes first, and extreme technical perfection comes second and at times may even have to be sacrificed in order to maintain those needs. This means, for instance, a little bit of grain is fine :-) After all, a photograph to me in essence, is a forever kept recorded personal reaction to a visually thrilling object, scene, light condition, or moment in life.Though I strive for technically sound images, subject interest, mood and the ability to evoke feeling in the viewer is most important to me when capturing a moment or sight with my camera. Perhaps this comes from the original attitude I had towards photography, and that was that any photo I tended to want to take is playing the role of a not yet germinated little seed for a possible future painting.
As a photographer, and I use that term lightly for myself, I can be described more as an opportunistic photographer as opposed to a more designer/creative photographer.
Please Note: most of my photos will not show automatically as available for sale - my images are often too small a file size for print purposes.
