Bio from his 2012 Solo Exhibition at the Small Ritual Coffee Society:
Kevin Boyle was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1998 he left the plains and moved to the west coast to pursue a career. He found that he loved the ocean and the mountains but something always called him to come home. There was a haunting vastness and great expanse to the prairies, and unless you grew up there (he would often say), you wouldn’t understand.
On October 10th, 2011, his father Alexander Boyle passed away at the age of 91. The distant whisper that called to him before was now screaming in the back of his skull. In June of 2012 he decided to throw some clothes in a bag, jump in a car with his camera and drive through the mountains and the plains, all the way back to Winnipeg. What he found on the drive back wasn’t just the images that are on the walls… he found a piece of himself that he had long forgotten. The prairies reminded him of a few simple lessons: How small we are, that time moves on and is unrelenting and that there is a quiet beauty in simplicity. Armed with his camera he tried to capture the feelings he had during the cathartic drive through the flat lands.
He waits patiently for a zombie invasion by taking pictures and playing Scrabble. He is a vanquisher of evil, an ethical omnivore and Earth protector.
