I'm an island girl and I grew up in the woods on the West coast of Canada. My favorite subjects are insects, other parts of nature, people, and anything interesting I can find when I'm traveling.
My favorite things about photography are having the power to save a moment that will never happen again and then share it with others. We are so lucky to be able to give people preserved seconds of their lives, and sometimes show them something they would never have seen or thought about if we hadn't captured it in a photo.
Sometimes people ask me how I can enjoy things when I'm just trying to take photos all the time. What they don't understand is that taking photos is my way of enjoying the world. Through the viewfinder of my camera, everything takes on significance and beauty I didn't see before, and I feel like a fascinated traveler even if I'm just in my yard.
I've been photographing insects since my grade three field trip to the butterfly gardens, but thankfully my equipment has improved from the disposable camera I used back then. I used an old pentax with film and macro filters for years, then moved to a digital Canon RebelXT in high school, a Canon 5D a couple of years ago and finally a Canon 5D MkII more recently.
I've just started to get into filmmaking, and a short project I did in summer 2012 can be found here:
I try to take photos of everything that I love about life. I hope you enjoy them.
