The Cherry Blossom Story

Published April 22nd, 2012

Well at first I want to clarify my appreciation for everyone who gave me feedback, voted and favored my photographs! Cherry Blossom Avenue
was my first photo I uploaded here in September 2011, which is why this image will always have a special meaning to me... It became quite popular with over a half a million views and I got many mails asking for different details. So I thought I write this little "Story", show some other photos of the street and answer every question I got so far to give something back to you!

If you have further questions, please write a mail to md.b@live.de and I will add it to this story.

PS: Those photos are compressed... In order to my copyright rights I can't offer you better quality (cause someone might use it for prints), Sorry!

Actually there are two streets in Bonn, where those trees are planted. This one is called "Heerstraße". Type in following coordinates (e.g. in google maps) to exactly locate this spot: 50.741785,7.096044 ;

Every year around the 8th April (depending on local temperatures) it's once more astonishing how a normal street can become such a phenomenal scenery for an incident of nature. Unfortunately this period, when these trees build a dense roof, lasts for only 7-9 days (subordinated to weather).

This is roughly the same perspective where this image was made...

If you give yourself a try photographing this street, I recommend focal lengths between 30 and 50mm. As longer the lens as more dense the trees will look.

The "Heerstraße" has a long history and was already used when the Romans settled in Bonn. Today it's almost the central street through the historic district.

Breite Straße

This is the second street where you can find cherry blossoms. It's slightly smaller than the Heerstraße and is a little curvy. Breite Straße provides some other perspectives and is more quiet (less cars) than the other one. Literally translated in means "wide street". Coordinates: 50.740879,7.098249
