Your oldest 500px picture?

Published September 3rd, 2012

This is mine. My first ever 500px upload. Taken 2.5 years ago from Tate Modern in London.

I love it for many reasons, but mainly because - without relying on HDR - I managed to create an image with a relatively wide dynamic range. My oldest 500px image.

What's yours?

Life in black and white

Published September 2nd, 2012

I saw an interesting video recently, where artists, photographers and other creative types explained why they prefer working in black and white.

I like b/w too. For me it's a way of removing distractions from an image and making the viewer focus on what's really important in the image.

Whether it's street photography or architectural photography, black and white treatment - when applied carefully - can make an image stand out. More than oversaturated colours.

First 500px post

Published May 23rd, 2011

OK, I might be daft. But after weeks on the site I've only just remembered I can actually blog here too. How fabulous.

SoI'll try that, although I'm old enough to know that maintaining more than one blog - my main one is at www.dzierza.com - is not as easy as it sounds.

But every now and then I'll share some images and photo-related stuff on here too.

So let's start with an image I've just created - using two great iPhone apps, Instagram and Tiny Planets. I took this picture earlier this morning in London and wasn't sure what to do with it until I applied Tiny Planets to it. The result is attached. You can see it on Instagram here: http://instagr.am/p/Eodzu/ - you can also follow me there - I'm michald.

I love this image. Do you?
