I didn't get a chance to shoot the gorgeous sunset in LA last night, but I did get my butt up around sunrise to shoot this bank I've wanted to do long exposures at for the last month. I'll tell you what--I'm pretty excited I didn't make a special trip solely to get shots straight up on the corner, though. Within a minute I had 2 security guards escort me from the property. I wasn't surprised but I did give them a hard time asking them, "how about here?" "And here?" I even tried paying them. I'm not sure what hours would give me the chance to shoot 1.5+ minute exposures (like this) without getting stopped but the one I'm after has some potential. SO I set up across the street, getting converging lines but some rad cloud movement.
Long story short: shooting architecture in LA sucks--best to stick with SF where I've never been stopped for a permit. Having said that......it's pretty freakin awesome when you have a permit shooting in LA--the rest of the day was a BLAST working in Malibu.
I'm psyched to see what all you coast shooters got last night--easily the best sunset of the year.
