It's the imagination. That's from Joseph Joubert, his 47th thoughts in his "Pensées". 'The imagination is the eye of the soul'. What you see is merely a few flat signs. It's not a japanese macaque, as much as the pipe of René Magritte is not a pipe. It's not the truth. It's not even the reality. The only fact is: this is a photo. What you look at is your imagination flitting on the reflections of your own soul. You imagine the pain or a burden; you imagine the intensity of life inside this monkey's shape. A good photo, as a good painting, is the propensity to call the soul of the viewer, for him to feel his own soul. That's our supreme goals, for us, photographers. To be a mirror. In short, quartz. Solely sand.
