Hi Cara! Great photo, I do agree with some of the other comments about location of the sun but it's still very nice. I would recommend pulling back on your highlights in and try to bring more of the detail out in the sky, This will gibe the image more depth and pop. Also you may want to apply some noise reduction as well. Both of these can be done very easily in Lightroom or Aperture. Just my 2 cents. :)

looking at the comments below i agree with the sun being offset, look up the rule of thirds. it helps a lot.
also, editing sw like lightroom is just amazing. If you are a student you can get it for about $75 (us). It can help so much.
As for cameras, the Nikon D5100/D3200 are not a ton of $ all told, and can add a ton to the photos quality.
If you look at some of my older photos you can see the change from the P500 to a D5100 and me starting to use Lightroom.
You have the desire, and the eye, so keep it up!

Very nice! Though as advice goes since you asked, I would try to invest in an entry DSLR and good photo editing software that can make more discrete alterations (I use adobe lightroom/ photoshop. They are pricey but you get great results) The better camera will help with the focus, get better colors, and reduce noise (the graininess in the photo). Try to keep the photos as natural as you can.
Hope this helps!
