It's not always easy getting yourself eye to eye with a lion in the wild. Even more difficult with a lion drinking...
Photographing from a small boat I got this female lioness as she came down to the river late one afternoon. I was the only person in the area and knew that if I really kept still and quiet she would come down to drink... my prayers were answered as she came down to the waters edge and quenched her thirst no more than a few feet from me. Lying flat on the small boat I had positioned myself for this shot.
