A fact of nature is it can be cruel. Great shot and nice to read some backgound to it.

Thanks for the comments all.

Cindy, if I had been on my home patch I'd have been inclined to try and do something but as it stood, the circumstances of my location dictated otherwise. It's very tough when you come across something like this, and we'd all like to help animals in need but on this occasion that wasn't possible. Just for reference, I didn't follow it around with my camera, all shots were taken from a stationary position that I was already set up in before I noticed the little fella.

Sometimes wildlife isn't all happy and nice, and that was why I posted the story to my blog, because it's the natural world and things like this happen from time to time :(

Read the whole story and it does make your heart heavy. Unfortunately nature is not very forgiving in many instances. Great shot in spite of the depressing back story.

don't you have any wildlife rehabbers that could have taken this little one in? I couldn't have left it there alone like that and would have tried to find help instead of shooting photos :/

The blog post was good to read - nature can be hard though.

That's sad. The mother biting at it must have been especially tough to witness. Nature can be cruel. Beautifully shot on your part though.
