The Transfagarasan highway is situated in the Southern Catharpian mountains. It is known to be the most dramatic highway in Romania, and known as the “best highway in the world” by the host in Top Gear. Originally built as a military highway route, the road is approximately 90km in length with full of twists and turns. The road is so twisty and dangerous that the average speed limit is 40km/h. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Romania. In this photo, you can see a huge herd of sheep on the right just walking by. Once you get to the top of the mountain (2034m high), you discover Balea Lake (a beautiful glacier lake). The view from the top of the mountain is unforgettable and the drive through the mountains and valleys provide the most amazing views ever. It is really a spectacular highway and a must-visit for any car enthusiast.
My trip so far has been wonderful. Romania is a beautiful country, and heavily under-rated. The people are extremely friendly and there is a lot of history and culture here.
