Nearing the end of a days shooting, having already found several garden spiders, with their magnifiscent webs, I found the largest spider yet. I was told that this spider was almost ready to have its babies. It was a huge spider!
I took some shots of it, left to shoot some other subjects, then thought I'd take another look before leaving for the day--and found to my surprise a dragonfly caught in the web! I was not happy to see this since I love dragonflies.
I considered trying to rescue it, pull it out of the web to free it, but then the spider would have lost its meal, and maybe the dragonfly was already dead, or would die anyway. I left it alone and took photos instead. Poor dragonfly!
In this side view the spider is seen doing something to its prey--possibly eating it or injecting it with something...another reason to have let it be.
