A big thank you to everyone, who has taken an interest in and/or commented on my photography. It is very much appreciated.
A prayer is said before the Council of Canons process to the Lady Chapel, where their business was conducted.
A Council of Canons is very rarely called – I don’t remember when it last occurred at Chichester Cathedral. It may not have happened in my lifetime. It was called on this occasion to decide on whether to accept the new bishop that the Crown wished to appoint. The reasons and arguments are put forward and the decisions made in private. The Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner is to be the new Bishop of Chichester.
The canon wearing the distinctive red cassock is a Chaplain to The Queen. They are the only members of the clergy allowed to wear this colour and must wear it when on the Queen's business or in the presence of the Queen. It is an honourary appointment and is awarded for long and destinguished service. There are currently 36.
