State of the art Agusta Westland AW 139 helicopter over the endless expanse of dunes at the Empty Quarter in the UAE, world's largest sand desert!
I took this shot from the Bell 412, through an open door, strapped to a chair with a full body harness. This kind of photography is far more challenging than I first imagined - there are the visible and invisible vibrations (harmonics) as well as strong winds from the rotor right above that you need to deal with which ends up ruining about 90% of your photographs! Minimum shutter speed should be 1/1600s which will require you to push the ISO to at least 800 at a widest aperture possible. 5D Mk2 focusing system proved to be really crappy as most of the shots ended up being either soft or motion-blurred. 5D Mk3 should do far, FAR better in this scenario.
