Let's go again this week in Japan, this time near Kyoto, along the Fushimi Inari taisha, shrines dedicated to the Spirit of fertility and rice, Inari. This landmark is famous, and like all signs world known, even too much known, it's intimidating just because you don't know if you will be able to make the site yours. I mean, to make a good photo, you need to say something special through the visual elements, light and textures. Since so many people took a picture of this shrine, how to express yourself in a way that is your own voice speaking, not a common ground with other photographers. In short, how not to produce a cliché. My own personal little truth: don't think twice, it's alright. Yeap, I'm a Bob Dylan fan. I make the same photo as every one else, then, when I'm satiated with the nourishing obvious compo, I start to dig in my own creativity (available only on some days, enhanced with expresso and cigar); I study the textures, the quality of the light, of the colors. Sometimes it's good, sometimes I have to close my eyes out of pique. On this shrine, the lines are difficult to reinterpret with a storytelling fantasy, so I went to feel the sun, the joy of the reds touch by the rays. So don't frustrate yourself with a blatant banal but irresistible composition, overwhelming your imagination. Enjoy it, then, change the subject.
