This Praying mantis was on my garage door so I grabbed my camera with my Opteka 10X Macro lens attached to my 35mm f/1.8G lens. I also grabbed my SB-700 with my new Rogue Flashbender with the diffuser panel attached.

So there I was, sat indian style on the driveway, with my camera about 3 inches away from the mantis. I had gotten about 4 shots without it being distubed but as I went in for an even closer shot, with my eye pressed up against the viewfinder, the mantis suddenly turned it's head and struck, I saw a flash of green and heard a loud "swak !!" as he hit the lens. I am not a huge fan of insects at the best of times so naturally I jumped like all hell and started stumbling backwards, almost tripping in the process. I laughed it off as I noticed the mantis climbing into a bush and out of sight. I'm just glad I got a couple shots in the short time he was out in the open.
