Interior, conceived by Leo von Klenze as a prelude to the gallery of the Imperial Museum, is designed to recall the history of ancient art. The walls are decorated with 80 paintings of scenes from Greek mythology and literature. Artist G. Hiltenshperger fulfilled their encaustic on brass boards in imitation of ancient encaustic technique. The vaults are placed bas-relief portraits of famous masters of European art, among them the author of the New Hermitage - Leo von Klenze. The gallery presents works of the Classical period outstanding sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1822) and his followers.
