Long before it became a derogatory term for unsolicitated email, SPAM (derived from “spiced” and “ham”) was a canned meat product produced by the Hormel Company of Austin, Minnesota. During World War II, SPAM became a staple for GIs around the world and for US allies Great Britain and the Soviet Union through the Lend-Lease program. It is still sold world-wide today.
The Hormel Company maintains a museum which, in turn, is whimsical, self-effacing, and informative. This photo was taken in the area called the SPAM Exam where visitors can test their knowledge of arcane SPAM facts.
