I immediately knew Aji would be an excellent model for my shoot as soon as I saw him alighting from his boat. My guide spoke with him and he graciously agreed to be photographed. After taking a few images of him on the lake, we decided to move the shoot to another location. Having messed up my sandals a few minutes before, I didn’t mind walking barefoot a few hundred feet in the mud to his shack near the banks of Tamblingan Lake. The tiny shack partly submerged in muddy waters became our studio that morning. This place used to be his home but he had to relocate his family to another area due to the flood, returning to it every morning just to sort out his catch.
