What sort of equatorial mount are you using to get smooth 600 second exposures? I've gotten a few cool shots of the orion nebula lately from a stationary tripod. Don't think I could do any better without some sort of tracking though. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a Skywatcher EQ6 equatorial mount with guiding. With a stationary tripod you will always get star trails with longer exposure times.

Very clean, and nice explanation too. By modified camera (on photo info) you mean with IR filter removed?

Yes, the IR filter was removed and replaced by a filter with enhanced transmission.
