This is the last of this Council of Canon's series and depicts the meeting under way.
The council meets in private and to ensure this the vergers close the doors. On either side of the Dean are the Cathedral's Communar, and a senior representative of the legal profession knowledgeable in Canon Law known as a Q.C. or Queens Council.
A Council of Canons is very rarely called – I don’t remember when it last occurred at Chichester Cathedral. It may not have happened in my lifetime. It was called on this occasion to decide on whether to accept the new bishop that the Crown wished to appoint. The reasons and arguments are put forward and the decisions made in private.
The Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner is to be the new Bishop of Chichester.
