The Buff-fronted Owl (Aegolius harrisii) is one of the rarest owls in South America and very little is known about them. They have a large range, ocurring in much of South America (with very few and scattered reports) but apparently avoiding lowland Amazonia. This one was photographed at the edge of humid Atlantic Rainforest in SE Brazil. They probably feed on large insects and small vertebrates, according to some food items found near a nest.
