It's the strong contrast of the horizontal water flows against the strong, repeated verticals of the trees that give it such good tension.

Love long exposures! I've always wanted to do this with water. Did you use shutter priority mode?

I did. I would have gone with a much longer exposure but the wind was blowing pretty badly... and the sharpness of the trees dropped off quickly.
