Blond-crested Woodpecker (Celeus flavescens)

In temperate regions most woodpeckers feed on insect larvae. In the tropical rainforests, however, many woodpeckers also feed heavily on fruits, due to the abundance of that food source. This one, from the Atlantic Rainforest of SE Brazil, is one of those that probably eat more fruits than larvaes.

This was photographed in the pre-tour to the Pantanal. To see more details about my photo tours and 2013 dates please visit www.octaviosalles.com.br
