Wanted to share something a little different with you! While I spend most of my time up at Khao Kheow Open Zoo with felines and primates, I do like to visit other animals and occasionally photograph them as well. One morning about a month ago I decided it was time to add some Asian (aka Asiatic) Elephants to my collection, but try as I might I just couldn't seem to come up with anything original, so decided to simply sit down and enjoy watching there magnificent animals for a while.

It wasn't long through before I got up and moved as close as I could to the nearest one, as I'd become fascinated with the textures and furrows of it's clay-coated skin, and just as the thought hit me that perhaps I could capture some interesting patterns, the Elephant turned away and calmly walked off! Luckily I had my 500mm lens at hand, so distance wasn't a problem, and once my subject settled into it's new position of comfort I began experimenting.

I came up with three images I particularly like, and of those this is probably my favourite for the way, to my mind, I could quite easily be looking down from the sky at landscape of some Mars-like planet appreciating the barren expanse of crumbling dunes.

Thanks for taking an interest ;^)
